Who are the Australian people?
Australians are a culturally mixed society. Australia has embraced migrants from all over the world. Many of those came directly after the Second World War from parts of Europe and the Middle East.More recently migrants from Vietnam and other parts of Asia have settled into Australia. Today Australia is a multi-cultural society with the immigration policy a global one. Today almost one in four Australians' was born overseas.

Australian society is multicultural therefore the culture is diverse. This feature makes Australia unique. A good display of the cultural mix is displayed through Australians' eating habits. Throughout Australias major cities you will find a great mix of cuisine ranging from Asian, Indian, European, Italian food and more. Each migrant group has bought to Australia a piece of their own culture which has provided an extensive range of gastronmoical delights. Generally Australians have adapted an easy going approach to life. Australians enjoy the outdoors and much free time is spent enjoying, beaches, mountains and greenery. Australians hold strong family values and often on weekends and public holidays this will be displayed with family outings and barbeques.

The country's national language is English. However, in addition to English the main languages spoken are: Cantonese, Arabic, Italian, Greek, Vietnamese and Mandarin.
